THE EFFECT OF FRESH WEDELIA WEED (Wedelia trilobata (L) Hitchc.) SUPPLEMENTATION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS IN MALE RABBIT

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Wedelia weed (Wedelia trilobata (L) Hitch.) supplementation on the development of reproductive organs in male New Zealand White rabbits. The research was conducted at the UPT Teaching Farm Kaliurang, Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta, from February 7 to March 12, 2025. A total of 12 male rabbits aged 3 months were used in a completely randomized design (CRD) with a one-way pattern consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications: P0 (100% pellet), P1 (90% pellet + 10% Wedelia), P2 (80% pellet + 20% Wedelia), and P3 (70% pellet + 30% Wedelia). Observed variables included the weight and length of the testis, vas deferens, and penis. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that Wedelia supplementation had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the weight and length of the penis, but no significant effect (P>0.05) on the testis and vas deferens. It is concluded that fresh Wedelia weed up to 30% inclusion in the ration can serve as an alternative forage feed for male rabbits, reduce pellet feed usage, and lower feeding costs.
