The Effect of Plant Growth Regulator Types on the Success of Moringa Cuttings

This study aimed to examine the effect of various types of Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) on the success of stem cutting growth in moringa (Moringa oleifera). The research was conducted from September to December 2025 in Dusun Plesan, Tirtomulyo, Kretek, Bantul, Yogyakarta, at an altitude of approximately 24 meters above sea level (m asl). The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor consisting of five treatments: control (without PGR), young green coconut water, shallot extract, Rootone-F, and Dekamon, each replicated three times. Observed parameters included shoot, leaf, and root growth, as well as chlorophyll content. The results showed that the application of PGRs had varying effects on the growth of moringa stem cuttings. Natural PGRs, particularly shallot extract and young green coconut water, produced better shoot growth, number of leaves, and plant biomass compared to synthetic PGRs. Synthetic PGRs showed no significant effect on root length and chlorophyll content. This is presumably due to the natural hormones such as auxins, cytokinins, and gibberellins present in natural PGRs, which are capable of stimulating cell division and elongation more effectively.
