Economic Analysis of Urban Farming and its Contribution to Community Income in Gondokusuman District

Gondokusuman District, located in the City of Yogyakarta, is an urban area that implements urban farming activities by utilizing limited land, such as roadsides and riverbanks. These urban farming activities are carried out by community groups with the aim of supporting household food needs and optimizing the use of urban space. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of urban farming and its contribution to household income in Gondokusuman District, Yogyakarta City. The study was conducted in 2025 using primary and secondary data. The sampling technique employed was a census sampling method. This research adopted a quantitative approach using a survey method. The data analysis methods included cost and income analysis, R/C ratio analysis, B/C ratio analysis, and analysis of the contribution of urban farming income to household income. The results show that the R/C ratio value was 0.49 and the B/C ratio value was -0.51, indicating that urban farming has not been effective in increasing household income and primarily functions as a supporting activity for household consumption. Nevertheless, urban farming still provides indirect benefits through the fulfillment of household food needs and the reduction of household expenditures.
