Abstract

The Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) is a populer cut flower of Indonesia. It is commonly used in bouquets for presenting and in vases for interior decoration. Postharvest losses in cut flower of tuberose is caused by the short vase life’s whose four days only. For this reason, it is necessary to look for the preservative solutions that enable extending vase life of tuberose. This study investigated the influence of mixture of sucrose, citric acid, and silver nitrate on the vase life compared the tap water as a control treatment. Pulsing of the cut flower with 10% sucrose + 300 ppm citric acid improved their floret opening until 8.08 buds (compared control treatment, 5.78 buds), and decrease the wilted floret till 73.08% (compared control treatment, 84.15%). Pulsing of cut flower with 10% sucrose + 300 ppm citric acid + 50 ppm AgNO3 grade pro anlysis (PA) improved their floret opening until 7.25 buds, and decrease the wilted floret till 59.10%. Substitution of AgNO3 PA by AgNO3 grade techical improved their floret opening until 7.18 buds, and decrease the wilted floret till 75.83%. All of the treatmens couldn’t extend significantly their vase life. The silver nitrate grade technical enable substitutes silver nitrate grade pro analysis (PA) for preservation of tuberose.
