THE EFFORT TO IMPROVE MOTIVATION AND ACHIEVEMENT IN LEARNING MATHEMATICS THROUGH CTL APPROACH FOR CLASS VII IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Abstract
This research aimed to improve the students’ learning achievement and motivation in learning mathematics of grade VII E, State Junior High School 1 Sedayu. This was a classroom action research with the research study was grade VII E in State Junior High School 1 Sedayu in the academic year 2013/2014. The teacher and the researcher took a role as a collaborator and the data obtaining done by using students and teacher questionnaire sheet, observation sheet, field note, unstructured interview, and documentation. The data analysis was conducted in descriptive qualitative through some steps which were data reduction, triangulation, and data display. The result of research showed that learning process using contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach actually could improve the mathematics learning achievement of 14.69% whereas the students’ learning motivation in learning mathematics improved 1.07% in grade VII E, State Junior
High School 1 Sedayu. This was shown by the learning implementation process with contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach kept improving from cycle I to cycle II of 26.33% on the observation sheet and 9.47% on the students’ questionnaire. The students’ learning result also improved. It reached 82.66% for the class average results.
