Abstract

The research was conducted at Lestari farmer group located at Southern Metro subdistrict, Metro city, Lampung province to study the effectivity of mass selection by estimating genetic parameter for growth performance at birth, weaning, yearling and to study producing ability of buck, does, male, and female individuals by estimating breeding value (BV) and Most Probable Producing Ability (MPPA). Recording of pedigree and growth performance of 260 heads of 10 bucks were used to estimate heritability and genetic correlation value, that of 78 does to estimate repeatability value. Survey method were used in this research. Variables observed were body weight and body measurement (body length, body height, chest girth, hip height, ear length, and ear width). Heritability value were estimated by variance analysis of halfsib correlation method, repeatability value by variance analysis of intraclass correlation method, genetic correlation by covariance analysis of halfsib correlation. Heritability and ripitability value were medium, genetic correlation value were positive and medium grade. Heritability and ripitability for yearling weight 0,18±0,01 and 0,19±0,04, respectively. Buck number II (absolute BV 29.91 kg), male goat number II.21 (absolute BV 29.35 kg), female goat number II.16 (absolute BV 26.15 kg), doe number 21 (MPPA 29,14 kg). Its conclusion that mass selection were effetive to improve growth performance, bucks and does possessing high production ability transmitted their genetic to their offspring. Key words: Heritability, Repeatability, Breeding Value, Most Probable Producing Ability
